WCBA Executive Board Meeting   Monday  November 17, 2008

Bluffton Baptist Church 7PM

Steve Renfrow, Pastor

and a specal invitation for all WCBA Pastor's Wives

Dear Pastor's Wife,
Bluffton Baptist Church will be hosting the November 17 Associational meeting Monday night at 7:00 p.m. I have invited Cathy Pound, State W.M.U. Director, to come and share her insights on being a pastor's wife. She will be sharing this information during the mealtime from 7:00-7:45 p.m. in a separate room just for pastors' wives. Being a pastor's wife can sometimes be a lonely experience. I trust this time of joining with other pastors' wives will be encouraging and uplifting. My wife, Carol, looks forward to seeing you that night. Carol and I understand ministry's challenges, having served in Bluffton for 29 years. Thank you for all you do to support your husband and ministry with the local church.

Steve and Carol Renfrow

WCBA Executive Board and Annual Meeting Minutes

WCBA Ministry Teams

Dear WCBA Fellow Saints,

At our 2007 Annual meeting we voted to explore in 2008 forming Ministry Teams made up of folks from across our Association to serve on TEAMS to gradually replace the former Program/Calendar based approach where one person was responsible to give leadership in the Association throughout the year to facilitate, plan and coordinate training and event related ministries in their area of responsibility. All of these Trainings and Events would be organized for the purpose of equipping and resourcing local church ministries across the Association. Once or so a year the Program Leaders would meet to plan a calendar of events and ministries. Then the Association would seek to carry out the Calendar and provide these events for people to attend and for people to receive information and encouragement from.

Sometimes this process worked extremely well, sometimes it did not. Sometimes very helpful events were planned but few attended. Other times people responded very well to certain opportunities. But often the same people year after year carried the full load of coordinating and planning the events, often with low response. Over the years our Association-wide events have lessened in number — often due to previous poor attendance. But another factor is the reality of finances. Over the years a typical program funding for the year might have been around $100— a very meager sum at best to hold any kind of event or training. With our current budget restraints due to working with the IRS to resolve questions concerning back payroll taxes, we have adopted a very minimalist Budget until more clarification comes.

In the meantime we would like to continue to explore how as an Association we might shift from the Event/Calendar based model to a Ministry/Passion/Needs/Action based model that has Teams working together to facilitate Association-wide ministry both in the context of calendar planning, and on an as requested/needed basis. As we emerge from some of the Budget restraints in the future, how can we best implement our resources to accomplish the most ministry?

How might this work? In the example on the next page, you would find what kind of ministry you have a passion for. As the Lord might lead, you become a volunteer and join with others on a TEAM (description at the top of the column) to assist fellow churches across the Association. each Executive Board Meetings on their ministry and plans. Much of their TEAM communication and coordination might be via Email, to save time and travel expenses. When one person has a big job to accomplish– it can be a heavy burden. And might not get done. But when several who have a passion for the work come together as a TEAM to accomplish it, the task becomes easier, more enjoyable and more effectively accomplished.

In the coming weeks you will hear about Teams being formed based on the example across the page. Please pray about how the Lord might have you serve. Let the Association know of your interest in this TEAM approach and respond accordingly as we form the TEAMS. Once a TEAM is formed we will have an organizational meeting and Training on TEAM Ministry Dynamics. Then the TEAM will begin to determine the ministry needs they will address and set about their work. A representative from each TEAM will give a report to Executive Board Meetings. Messengers to the Ex Board meetings then take those reports back to their local churches and share with their folks.

We will have more about this in future Newsletters and online at www.WCBAohio.org. Please consider how the Lord might lead you in expanding your and your church’s ministry to fellow churches across the Association and beyond.

As always, please contact the Association with any questions or suggestions. Thanks!
