A VOLUNTARY ASSOCIATION OF LOCAL CHURCHES
West Central Baptist Association is a voluntary association of Southern Baptist churches throughout 11 counties of West Central Ohio, with offices in Jackson Center. The churches have chosen to affiliate with the Southern Baptist convention because of its conservative Biblical stance and World Missions commitment. Although the Convention was organized in 1845 by separating from the northern Baptist churches over the question of "Can slave owners be appointed missionaries?" the Southern Baptist Convention is now the most integrated denomination in the country.
THE GOSPEL
The fact that Jesus died for our sin, was buried and then rose from the grave is foundational for Southern Baptists. He lives today and stands ready to give abundant and eternal life to all those who repent of sin and place their faith in Him. Southern Baptists invite everyone to receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
Southern Baptists A MISSIONARY PEOPLE
As the largest missionary sending agency in the United States, we now have missionaries in over 122 countries. The Gospel is preached every Sunday in Ohio Southern Baptist churches in 14 different languages. There are now Southern Baptist churches in every state of the union. All are autonomous indigenous local churches with no ecclesiastical / denominational authority over them. The denominational structure and relationships are determined by elected messengers from local churches. The denomination --or better--"convention" is in session once each year, while "agencies" of the convention exist to serve the churches and ther mission apponted them by the churches throughout the year. It is a cherished Southern Baptist belief that no institution in God's economy is higher than a local church, and Christ is
the Head of the Church.
Southern Baptist MISSION BOARDS
From the beginning, Southern Baptists have been a missionary sending people. Today they support over 5,000 international missionaries through the IMB--International Mission Board. Southern Baptists field over 5,000 North American missionaries in the United States, Puerto Rico Canada, American Samoa, and the Virgin Islands through NAMB-- the North American Mission Board. Among their tasks are church planting, evangelism, literacy training, hunger relief, medical missions and prayer for spiritual awakening.
Southern Baptists Across OHIO
The State Convention of Baptists in Ohio --SCBO-- is a SBC affiliated statewide convention of over 600 congregations located in most counties across Ohio . Executive Director/Treasurer Jack Kwok, Ph.D. says "God has been casting a vision for Southern Baptists in Ohio to reach one million members in 2,020 congregations by the end of 2020. Southern Baptists all across Ohio are embracing this 2020 Vision. Your Mission Council staff recognizes and affirms that reaching one million members by 2020 will occur through the ministries of local New Testament churches."
The purpose statement for all Mission Council ministries embraces this basic concept:
To assist and encourage affiliated churches and associations to fulfill the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The Great Commission drives all of our mission efforts. Local churches are the instruments God has chosen to fulfill the Great Commission. Our state convention exists to assist local churches fulfill the Great Commission. The Mission Council ministries of the state convention gladly join local district associations as partners in assisting local churches fulfill the Great Commission.
